VM for Virtual Machine
VPS stands for Virtual Private Server
They basically mean the same thing and the two terms may be used interchangeably. Generally however if a knowledgebase article mentions VM it typically means our newer Cloud VM plans (available from November 2011 onwards) and VPS would mean our older Virtuozzo\cp.blacknight.com based plans (available up to September 2011).
