Transferring Your Domain Names

How Do I Transfer My Domain to Blacknight?

A few things to note about domain transfers:

Note that the transfer of domains can take some time to fully complete. While we make every effort to facilitate your transfer, Blacknight cannot be held responsible for delays in transfers due to errors made by third parties.
.ie domains will typically transfer within 48 hours, so long as a valid Authorisation Key is provided.
.com domain transfers can take up to 5 days in some cases; please ensure that you have allowed for this when transferring a domain that is due for renewal. We urge you to initiate transfers as far in advance as possible; expired domains cannot be transferred.
.co.uk domains will usually transfer within one day, however you should allow up to 7 days.
In most cases transferring your domain will also add +1 year to your current registration period.

Please note:

Transferring your domain does not transfer your email accounts or website content, or automatically update the DNS.

How Do I Transfer a .ie Domain?

Before you start:

Ensure that the Admin Contact for your .ie domain is up to date an correct
Ensure that you have requested the Authorisation Code for your .ie Domain
Ensure that the Authorisation Code for your domain is correct and has not expired
Ensure that your domain is active and has not expired

To process a .ie domain transfer, we require an Authorisation Code for the domain You should be able to request this code from your current registrar.

Once you have obtained the Authorisation code for your domain, you can place your transfer order via our website blacknight.com, or via your Blacknight account:

Providing the Authorisation Code is correct, .ie domain transfers typically complete within 48 hours.

How Do I Transfer a .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.mobi/.tv or gTLD Domain?

Before you start:

Ensure that the Admin, Owner and Tech contact details for your domain are accurate and up to date and reflected in the Whois Database. If required please contact your current registrar to update your details
If you have a Privacy or Proxy service applied to your domain, ensure that this is removed before processing a transfer
Ensure that the domain has Been Unlocked by your current registrar
Ensure that you have obtained a valid EPP Code from your current registrar
Ensure that your domain is currently active and has not expired.
Ensure that it has been more that 60 Days since you registered or last transferred your domain

Once you have obtained the EPP code for your domain, you can place your domainvia our website blacknight.com,, or via your Blacknight account :

Once the domain transfer order has been placed, you will be sent an email from Blacknight asking you to validate the transfer.

We ask you to validate the transfer to ensure that the listed domain holder has requested the transfer and not a third party.

If you do not have access to the listed email address, or the email address listed is part of a privacy or proxy service, you will need to contact your current provider to update your details.

Once the above is actioned the transfer can proceed and will typically complete within 7 days

How Do I Transfer a .co.uk / .me.uk / .org.uk /.uk Domain?

Before you start:

Ensure that the contact information for your domain is correct and up to date
Ensure that your domain is currently active and has not expired
Ensure that the IPS Tag for your domain has been updated to reflect BLACKNIGHT-IE with your current registrar

In order to process a .co.uk domain transfer, you must request that the domains IPS Tag be changed to reflect Blacknight’s tag.

Blacknight’s IPS Tag is : BLACKNIGHT-IE

Once you have ensured that the IPS Tag has been updated for your domain, you can place your transfer via our website blacknight.com, or via your Blacknight account :

How Do I Transfer a .eu Domain?

Before you start:

Ensure that the contact information for your .eu domain is correct and up to date
Ensure that your domain is currently active
Ensure that you have obtained a valid Authorisation Code from your current registrar

Once you have obtained the Authorisation code for your domain, you can place your transfer order via our website blacknight.com, or via your Blacknight account:

Please note: If you wish to change the Domain Holder contact details EURid will consider this to be a "trade". Both the current and new domain holders will be required to approve the transfer.

EU domain transfers DO NOT add a year to the registration period. The registration period of one year is reset when the transfer completes.

How Do I Transfer a Domain Between Blacknight Accounts

If you wish to transfer a domain name to another account with Blacknight, we will need to receive an email from the current account holder requesting the transfer.

The email needs to come from the address listed as admin contact on the account and will need to include:

The Domain Name you wish to transfer
The Account ID of the current holder
The receiving Account ID.
Confirmation that you wish to transfer the domain to the new account.

The email should be sent to billing@blacknight.com

Please be aware that this will not change the whois details or hosting in any way. It is not possible for us to move hosting between accounts. The new account holder will need to purchase a new hosting plan in their own account (or use an existing one they have) and upload the files to the new plan. What About Other Domain Types?

Domain transfer procedures can vary from extension to extension, however in most cases an Authorisation Code may be required.

How Do I Transfer My Website to Blacknight

The migration of website files and data from an existing hosting provider to Blacknight is the sole responsibility of the client.

Our migration team can look after transferring you website on to your new web hosting for you. Typically the team charges €35.00 ex vat per hour, however they would need to have a look at your current web site files to give you an accurate cost estimation. To do this they would need access to your current hosting control panel.

Please note that the team can only re-create your email addresses during the migration process, they cannot migrate actual emails so any important emails or inbox's should be backed up before the process begins.

Domain Transfer Notes:

Please be aware that the transfer of domains can take some time to fully complete.
We highly recommend an appropriate testing period after you have transferred a domain to us.
Please note that different hosting providers may have different directory structures, so your website code may require some modification to work after the transfer.
Most databases can be easily transferred from your old hosting provider to us, but we will have to change the database details, including the database name, the usernames & the passwords. As such, modifications will have to be made to your website's code.
