The maximum size we allow or recommend for your mailbox depends on the type of hosting package you have. They can primarily be identified by the control panel you have to access your hosting package.
Direct Admin (Linux hosting package bought before Oct 2008)
We don't recommend a single email account go over around 100MB in size on our older servers, though you can have up to your disk space allowance on your hosting package. If you go over 100MB you might be asked to lower the amount of email you have for server-performance reasons.
Helm (Windows hosting package bought before Oct 2008)
There is a limit of 100MB per mailbox on these plans. There is also a limit of 300MB in total across all the email accounts on a single domain. There is no way to increase this limit at all.
cp.blacknight.com (linux or windows plan bought on our new website, after October 2008)
The limits on our current hosting plans are 3 GB per mailbox, for any shared hosting plan.
You may change the mailbox size by logging into cp.blacknight.com and browsing to:
E-mail >> Select e-mail account >> Mailbox tab >> Edit
If you need more than 3GB per mailbox you will need to look at our Hosted Exchange plans (or an unmanaged VPS plan).
Hosted Exchange
If you have a hosted exchange plan you can see the mailbox limits per plan on our website:
