This tutorial will hopefully address how simple it is to migrate from Posterous to WordPress with Blacknight.
We're going to be using the following plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posterous-importer/ for WordPress
As with all things the first thing I'm going to do is recommend that you backup things first.
(While this step isn't 100% necessary for what we're going doing I recommend you do it anyways)
You backup your Posterous account by going to Posterous and logging into your account.
Once logged in you'll see something along the lines of the following:
Click the Backup button on the top right.
You'll be taken to the following screen
Click the Request Backup button. You'll need to fill in a captcha see a screen and click Start Backup. You'll be notified via email when you can download your backup. If you don't receive an email fear not. Coming back to the Backup Page you should see a green Download button. Click it and save the file somewhere safe. It contains all your posts and images from your Posterous space.
Onto getting started with WordPress on Blacknight. In this case we're using the Application Vault to install WordPress. The application Vault makes it rather simple to install WordPress with a few clicks. ( I'm assuming here you've already bought a domain name and hosting ) If you're confused about that then feel free to Live Chat with someone from sales via the Live Chat button at the top of the page.
Clicking on Web Hosting - Application Vault -> Blog Software -> WordPress you'll get to the above screen click Install.
Click the domain that you want to install WordPress for. You'll be taken to the following screen.
Click the next button.
Depending on where you want to access your wordpress install from you should probably change to URL path to / as above. This means when you go to your site you'll find your WordPress Install if not you'll need to go yourdomainname/path.
Select a Login for your WordPress site and a password and click Next
You'll see the above screen. Click on Finish and WordPress will be installed for you. No messing about setting up databases and uploading files. It is all taken care of.
You should be seeing the above screen. The status shows that it is installing. This may take a few minutes. You can click the refresh button on the top right of the page (highlighted.
Once it is installed the Status should change to Installed. You can now login to your WordPress install by clicking on Login.
You'll see the above Dashboard or similar. This is where you administer your WordPress Install.
In order to import your Posterous website you'll need to install a plugin. You do this by clicking Plugins on the left hand side. Add new as seen below.
Do a search for Posterous Importer. You may want to change the dropdown to Keyword. It should be the first on the list of plugins to install. Click on Install Now.
Confirm you want to install the plugin by clicking OK. You'll be taken to the following screen. You'll now want to click on Activate Plugin.
You should see the following screen telling you the Plugin has been activated.
Go to Tools on the left hand side and click on Import. You should now see a Posterous link that you can click on.
gYou should see the following screen. Enter your Posterous account details here and click Submit.
The import will now start. Depending on how large your Posterous space is you may want to go grab yourself a coffee. It'll work away importing things for you as below.
Once the import has completed you'll see the below at the bottom of the page All Done!.
You can now view your new website by clicking on the top bar and Visit Site.
You're done. Welcome to Blacknight and your very own WordPress install.
