This is only relevant to accounts and hosting packages on our newer (post October 2008) hosting system at http://cp.blacknight.com
NB: Neither of the below methods will affect the domain registration at all. If you want to move the domain registration then please contact our Accounts team at billing@blacknight.com
If you have any custom DNS records on the domain you would need to manually create them on the account that you are moving the hosting to as this will delete the current DNS records on the domain that you are moving.
The short method:
This only applies to if a domain registration is in one account and the hosting package is in another and there is no existing website or email on the domain name at the moment (or the website and email is hosted with another company at the moment).
First delete the domain from the account it is registered under:
Hosted Domains > domainname > Delete
Then add the domain to the account the hosting package is on:
Hosted Domains > Add Registered Domain
We would recommend you use the Website website hosting option, use the existing webspace, and set the "Location" to something like /domainname
The long method:
This applies if the domain has an active website and\or email in use on a current hosting package and you want to move it to a separate hosting package on another account for whatever reason. There will be downtime while doing this.
To move the hosting you need to have all the website files and the database downloaded to your local computer, note down any email accounts and other settings and have the emails fully backed up. Then delete the domain from your own account under:
Hosted Domains > domainname > Delete
While this won't affect the domain registration at all it will irreversibly remove all email accounts and anything installed through the Application Vault for this domain. It may delete everything associated with this domain from your control panel so ensure that you have everything backed up before removing the domain. The website and email will go down from this point.
Then to add the domain to the new account log into it and go to:
Hosted Domains > Add Registered Domain
We would recommend you use the 'Website' website hosting option, create new webspace and set the "Location" to something like /domainname
While waiting for the domain to update and point to the new hosting account (around 1-2 hours) you should be uploading all the website files and setting up the email accounts to avoid any additional downtime over the 1-2 hour period.
