We do not support SFTP on our Shared Hosting systems, however, we do allow FTPS connections.
It should be noted that SFTP and FTPS are two very different methods of making an "FTP" connection to a server:
- SFTP requires SSH/Shell access to the server, which we do not allow (on Shared Hosting).
- FTPS can use either an Implicit or Explicit TLS secure connection, over standard FTP protocol, and in our case we allow Explicit FTP connections.
To ensure you are making an FTPS (Explicit) connection, you should use a capable FTP Client (software) and ensure it is set to use that method for connection.
It is important to note also that Explicit FTP TLS connections can only be made over a Passive FTP connection; while our servers support this, if your Router/Firewall, or anything in between you and us, is blocking the Passive connection you will only be able to make the connection over plain unsecured FTP in Active mode.
To enable Explicit over TLS in FileZilla, you will need to create a "Site" in FileZilla:
File >> Site Manager >> Add a new site
And aside from the typical details entered, ensure you set:
Encryption: "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available."
