This article relates to moving the content of your current Plesk VPS with us to a newly purchased Plesk VM. This article presumes you have the domains and Plesk VPS set up as we would typically recommend in relation to domains and users. You might have to change some of the steps, or manually migrate other settings depending on what changes you have made to the VPS.
Plesk Migrator transfers service plans, subscriptions with all associated domains, and websites with content (such as files, mail, databases, and so on). Reseller and customer accounts that do not have any domains are not transferred. The settings of Plesk services, such as installed PHP handlers, Fail2Ban settings, ModSecurity settings, firewall settings, and so on are not transferred.
This is written from a Plesk Onyx point of view. Some steps might be different if using a newer version of Plesk.
We would also recommend you take your own, local backup of all your data on your VPS first before making any changes in case you need to restore.
The following article from Plesk explains the entire migration process in precise detail:

MIGRATION MANAGER:
Plesk has a migration manager that you can use to migrate domains from one Plesk install to another. This might not be possible on versions of Plesk older than 9.0.
- Configure your Plesk install on the VM and log in
- Check that the default IP address is shared: Tools & Settings> IP Addresses Management > click on IP address > change to shared and click ok
- Install the Plesk Migration Manager on the VM under: Tools & Settings > Updates & Upgrades > Add/Remove Components.
- In the new window that opens up tick the Plesk Migrator option and press Continue
- Go back to your main Plesk control panel (you might need to log out and log back in again)
- Go to Server Management > Extensions > Plesk Migrator > Start a New Migration
- Put in your VPS hostname or IP address, your old VPS administrator or root username and password (this might not be the same as your Plesk admin user password), the rest of the settings are most likely ok as the default for you
- We recommend you select the "Use configuration from current system and data from migration data file" and "Allow overuse" options on the next screen, the rest are typically ok set as they are
- Once the restore is done, test the domains as needed. You can see how they are set up in Plesk 10 under:
- Domains > Control Panel (beside the domain you want to access)
Preview the site using the page icon beside the domain name under Websites & Domains (in the new window that opens up after you click on Control Panel)
OLD VPS:
This is only necessary if you aren't using the Plesk Migrator
- Install the Plesk Backup Manager, if you have not done so already, under Settings or Server > Updater
- Then go to: Home > Backup Manager > Backup
- Make sure you at least tick the "Server configuration and content" option when taking the backup.
- Once the backup is complete download it by clicking on the floppy disk icon to the right of the backup name under the Backup Manager
NEW VM:
This is only necessary if you aren't using the Plesk Migrator
- Configure your Plesk install and log in
- Check that the main IP address on the VM is set to shared: Tools & Utilities > IP Addresses Management > click on IP address > change to shared and click ok
- Go to: Tools & Utilities > Backup Manager > Upload Files to Server Repository > upload your backup
- Click on the backup name. We recommend you select the following options only to restore:
- Administrator's domains, Administrator's customers, Resellers
- Once the restore is done, test the domains as needed. You can see how they are set up in Plesk 10 under:
- Domains > Control Panel (beside the domain you want to access)
- Preview the site using the page icon beside the domain name under Websites & Domains (in the new window that opens up after you click on Control Panel)
UPDATE cp.blacknight.com
Set up the DNS Records for the domain:
- Set up the DNS records you need on the domain to point it to your VM IP address:
- Hosted Domains > domainname > DNS > DNS Records
- Please see here for DNS record recommendations: https://support.blacknight.ie/531/point-domain-to-cloud-vm.html
Cancel your old VPS:
If you want to then cancel the old VPS you can do so by contacting our Accounts team or through cp.blacknight.com
You can double check there are no remaining domains or services linked to the old VPS plan by clicking on Select Subscription in cp.blacknight.com, though please note this wouldn't show any domains you manually set up on the VPS outside of cp.blacknight.com.
