We strongly recommend you ensure all applications you have running on your site are kept as up to date as possible and are secure.
A web application is an application you would have installed on to your hosting package to provide a specific service or help with the management and design of parts of the site, for example Wordpress, Joomla, Dot Net Nuke, PHPbb, vBulletin etc.
If you have installed your application manually, through FTP, then you will need to check with the vendors of that application for how best to keep it up to date and secure.
If you installed the application through the Application Vault tool on our shared hosting plans then you can upgrade the application in your hosting package control panel as per the following:
Mega\Giga\Tera Plesk plans:
Log in to the plesk control panel > Applications > Application Name
Wordpress cPanel plans:
Log in to cPanel > WP Toolkit > Updates
Application Vault on http://cp.blacknight.com (legacy Minimus\Medius\Maximus hosting plan):
# Websites > Domainname > Web Applications > application name > Upgrade
Notes:
* It is not recommended to perform manual updates of applications installed via the application vault as this may unlink these from the control panel.
* Keep an eye out for known vulnerabilities in the most recent releases of common applications, typically an application vendor will release a security update quite soon if there is a known compromise but some applications may no longer been maintained and so are vulnerable to compromise.
