This article applies to Windows templates on our Cloud VM plans only. If you are running an older VPS plan then you should _not_ apply Windows updates except for any applications you installed yourself (such as MSSQL).
On our Cloud VM plans you can work away and apply any windows updates you need yourself, and we would actually recommend you set your VM to download and install at least the security updates automatically or regularly.
