YOU MUST BACKUP YOUR CURRENT WEBSITE FILES AND DATABASES BEFORE CHANGING WEBSPACES OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FILES!
This article only applies to our legacy Minimus, Medius, Maximus shared hosting plans. This is not possible on our Mega, Giga, Tera, or Wordpress plans.
Web Applications/Application Vault
In addition, changing the webspace for a domain irreversibly removes any Web Applications you may have installed on the domain using our Application Vault, along with their files and database; you would first need to convert those installations into manual installations prior to the move.
See the following for more information:
Please note that some of our older servers support Zend Optimizer while the majority of our webservers, including any sites set up in the last year or so, do not so if you require Zend Optimizer you should not move your website.
First you need to create a new webspace to move your site to:
Websites > Add new subdomain > add a random subdomain, and leave web hosting set to None.
Then go to Home > Hosted Domains > new subdomain > Add Hosting
Set it to website hosting, and choose to create a new webspace when prompted.
Set up an FTP user for the new subdomain under:
Websites > subdomainname > FTP Access (Website Configuration on Windows)
Set up the webspace under:
Websites > subdomainname > Web Site Configuration > Edit. - We typically recommend you enable everything bar PHP 4 support (set PHP 5 to be in cgi-mode).
Now create a folder named after your domain in the new webspace and copy over the website files from the old webspace in to this folder using your FTP details. There is no need to move databases or email accounts as they are unaffected by this.
Note down your new webspace ID:
This is found to the right of the subdomain name in Sites & Domains or All Domains
Test the site on the new webspace:
Use the Webspace address found under:
Websites > subdomainname > Website Configuration
Put your folder name that you moved the website files in to after this address. e.g. http://www.d123456.cp.blacknight.com/domain_name
Once you have the website files moved change your domain to point to the new webspace:
In the new location, if you use index.php rename it to index1.php
Websites > domain_name > Web > Change Hosting > Apache Website hosting > set it to use the webspace ID of the new webspace
Delete the new index.php, and rename index1.php to index.php
There will be 30-60 minutes downtime to the website only (i.e. not the email) when you do this last step.
