How to generate a CSR on our legacy minimus, medius, and maximus plans.
This only applies to Linux or Windows shared hosting packages on the cp.blacknight.com control panel system. If you are hosted on our newer Mega\Giga\Tera\Wordpress plans see here
Go to: Account >> Account Settings >> More Tools >> Certificates >> Request
Bits: set this to 2048
Key Type: can be left as default (RSA)
Country: Your country
State/Province: State, Province or county
Location (City): Town or city
Organization name: Company name
Organization Unit Name: we typically recommend this be put as 'web'
Common name: the common name you want the cert applied to (e.g. www.domain.tld, secure.domain.tld, shop.domain.tld)
E-mail: your email address
Store in user repository: select
Download the private key and CSR when given the opportunity or else you may have to repeat this process.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
if you have not downloaded the "Private Key" and/or wish to save it to the "Repository", ensure you click "Close" at the final screen - if you do not do this the Private Key will be lost.
NB: the address and company name apply to the company the domain name corresponds to, if you are a reseller or web developer this would not be your own company name or address
NB: If you are not hosting the website the cert is for with us then the CSR must be generated on the server the website is hosted on.
