The following covers how to set up a DNS records for Medium on our older cp.blacknight.com panel. If you need to do this on cp.blacknighthosting.com (for any domains on accounts created after June 2022) please see here:
How to edit DNS records in cp.blacknighthosting.com
PLEASE NOTE: The IP addresses listed here are correct at the time of writing and may change without notice. Please check with Medium for the correct IP Addresses.
Prerequisites:
- You must have an active Medium membership subscription
- You must own the domain name
On Medium:
To begin the process of setting up a custom domain for your profile page,
1) Go into the Settings
- For your profile, click on your profile picture on the top-right corner and click Settings from the menu.
- For your publication, click on your publication avatar on the top-right corner and click Settings from the menu.
2) Enter the domain name that you wish to associate with Medium.
On Blacknight
1) Log into cp.blacknight.com
2) Click on Home at the top of the screen
3) Click on Hosted Domains
4) Click on the domain in question
5) Click on the Web tab at the top. (If you do not have a Web tab, skip to Step 7)
6) Click on Remove Hosting and then click OK
7) Click on the DNS tab
8) Click on DNS Records
9) Click Add New DNS Record
- Click Add New DNS Record
Choose A from the dropdown menu
in the Domain field leave it blank and in the IP Address field input: 162.159.153.4
Click Finish - Click Add New DNS Record
Choose A from the dropdown menu
in the Domain field leave it blank and in the IP Address field input: 162.159.152.4
Click Finish
On Medium
1) Click Continue and then Done. Your custom domain is being verified and once finished, it will automatically start pointing to your profile or publication. This process can take up to three days.
