Please Note:
You will require an active subscription to Ning Plus or Ning Pro in order to link your domain to your Ning Network.
Also, these instructions are for domains that are using our nameservers i.e. DNS entries on https://cp.blacknight.com
You will need to make DNS changes to your domain name, in your Blacknight control panel - for the domain, in order to point the domain to your NING network.
Login To Your Blacknight Control Panel Account
Login via the following URL: https://cp.blacknight.com
Navigate To Your Domain's DNS Records
From the Home screen, click Hosted Domains and select your Domain Name:
Click DNS (TAB), then DNS records:
Amend Your Domain's DNS Records To Point To Ning
Set the IP address for the base record (@) for your domain:
This will be set to: 208.82.16.68
You should deactivate the existing (A) record and create a new (A) record - follow the steps provided:
- Click into the yourdomainname.com (A) record and click 'Deactivate Record'.
- Return to the DNS Records screen and click Add New DNS Record.
- Ensure DNS Record Type is set to A.
- Leave the Domain box blank.
- Enter the IP address into the box provided i.e. 208.82.16.68
- Leave other items as default and click Submit.
Set the CNAME 'www' record for your domain:
You should deactivate the existing www record and create a new CNAME record - follow the steps provided:
- Click into the www.yourdomainname.com record and click 'Deactivate Record'.
- Return to the DNS Records screen and click Add New DNS Record.
- Ensure DNS Record Type is set to CNAME.
- In the Domain box, enter www.
- In the Canonical name box, enter the yourdomainname.ning.com; where yourdomainname is based on your domain i.e. yourdomainname.com
- Leave other items as default and click Submit.
Please Note: Your changes may take up to 24 hours to propagate - possibly longer in certain circumstances.
Add Your Domain To Your Ning Network
The final step will be to add your custom domain to the Domain Mapping section of your Ning Network.
- After 24 hours, sign in to your Ning network and head to My Network > Tools > Domain Mapping.
- Insert your custom domain into the Alternate Domain 1 field.
- Select the radio button next to the domain name you want to appear in the web address toolbar.
- Click Save.
