Why doesn't my upgraded VM have more resources?

You might want to contact us before trying this.  If the hardware node your VM is on does not have enough spare resources for your upgrade you might get an error when trying to allocate extra space or RAM.

This article relates only to our Cloud VM plans.  If you have recently upgraded your plan in order to get more resources then you will need to manually assign those extra resources to your VM itself.  This is because your account actually gets upgraded and allocated more resources, not the VM specifically.

You can increase the resources as follows (depending on what your upgrade has included):

Diskspace:
Virtual Machines > vm name > Storage > Disks > click on the cog icon to the right of the drive you want to increase

Windows VM:
Once you have increased the disk space you will need to assign it to a partition in Windows.
You can assign it to the C partition by going to Server Manager > Disk Management > Right Click on C and select Extend Volume, select the amount and apply.

Network Speed:
Virtual Machines > vm name > Networking > Network Interfaces > click the pencil (edit) button > Drag the slider all the way over to 100Mbit/s and save it.

CPU and RAM:
Virtual Machines > vm name > Tools > Edit Virtual Machine
We recommend you set the RAM all the way to the maximum.
For the CPU you can have your full allocated on one CPU, or split it across multiple CPUs (depending on the plan you are on).


You'll then need to shutdown the VM and then restart it for these changes to take affect.
