This article is for users that have the email setup in the likes of Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Phones/Tablets and even the likes of the Gmail webmail interface.
If you are only using the Titan Webmail interface, or the official Titan Apps for iOS or Android, then you should not need to do anything as there is no configuration required on those.
Please see below for more details instructions for some common email programs and devices:
- Microsoft Outlook 2019/2021
- Microsoft Outlook for Mac
- Mozilla Thunderbird
- Apple Mac Mail
- Apple iPhone
- Android
- Gmail
If you are still using our old blacknight.com hostnames in your email program they need to be updated to the new Titan hostnames instead.
Those hostnames are/were:
mail.blacknight.com
pop33r.cp.blacknight.com
imap5r.cp.blacknight.com
smtp1r.cp.blacknight.com
You can find links to the various steps for Outlook, Mac Mail etc. below
It is important to note also that Titan support only TLS version 1.2 via their servers.
This means that older operating systems and email clients will not be able to connect to their systems, as such only the below (and later) will be able to connect:
-
Operating Systems
- Windows 10 (end-of-life in October 2025)
- Windows 11
- Mac OS High Sierra 10.13
-
Email Clients
- Outlook 2016/2019 (end-of-life in October 2025)
- If Outlook 2016 has the "Account and Social Network" section it may no longer function for Titan.
- See "Outlook "Account and Social Network" Section/Settings" below for more on this.
- Outlook 2021
- Mac Mail (as per the operating system you have, at least 10.13)
- Outlook 2016/2019 (end-of-life in October 2025)
As a note, despite Windows 10 and Outlook 2016/2019 no longer being updated you should not loose connection October 2025, however, you should take caution with sensitive operations online with Windows 10 as it will no longer receive security updates from Microsoft.
The new details you need to use are:
-
For Incoming POP ...
- Hostname: pop0101.titan.email
- Requires encryption, SSL/TLS on port 995.
-
For Incoming IMAP ...
- Hostname: imap0101.titan.email
- Requires encryption, SSL/TLS encryption on port 993.
-
For Outgoing SMTP ...
- Hostname: smtp0101.titan.email
- Requires encryption.
- Initially try SSL encryption on port 465.
- If that does not work try StartTLS encryption on port 587.
- If you only have a listing for "SSL/TLS" then use port 465.
- As a note, you can no longer use port 25 for outgoing connections.
- Some email clients will show that the Username/Password for this is optional, however, this is not the case and they are required.
If you receive a notice that the SSL Certificate is not valid - or something along those lines, it is likely your antivirus software is causing that as it is in the middle of the connection attempt and causing issue.
Outlook "Account and Social Network" Section/Settings
If you see this as the option/section to try change your email settings then this would suggest that is for the following Outlook versions:
- Outlook 2010 <- Is no longer supported, with or without the connector.
- Outlook 2013 <- Is no longer supported, with or without the connector.
- Outlook 2016
The Outlook Social Connector would not be supported for connections to the Titan email servers.
For Outlook 2016 only:
If it does not have the "Account and Social Network" section Outlook 2016 may well function with Titan servers with mixed results as it is currently end-of-life and not supported.
If it does have the add-in you may be able to remove it to get the email working but in doing so might affect other items you have setup in Outlook -- it would then be up to you to decide if you want to remove it or not.
- Open Outlook.
- Go to File → Options → Add-ins.
- At the bottom, next to Manage, choose COM Add-ins and click Go.
- Look for entries like:
- Outlook Social Connector
- LinkedIn Outlook Connector
- Facebook Outlook Connector
- In this case, uncheck the box to disable the "Outlook Social Connector", or select it and click Remove to uninstall.
- Restart Outlook.
Titan Webmail/Titan App
If the above applies and you cannot make a connection then you would then need to use the Titan Webmail interface or otherwise the Titan App until such time you can/do upgrade Outlook:
- Webmail: https://app.titan.email
- Titan App: https://support.titan.email/hc/en-us/sections/360005979033-Download-the-app
Outlook (App) - via the Microsoft Store
Microsoft caches the connection details for the Outlook Store App.
This is important to note as when you go to update the hostname details for the account it will fail and give an error similar to the following:
Something went wrong with this account setup.
Try again. You may need an app password. This can be an indication of this caching issue.
To resolve this you must allow time for the cache to clear - on the Microsoft system, and to do this:
-
[VERY IMPORTANT] Remove ALL OF the email accounts that are relevant to your domain:
- It is important to remove all the accounts at once - not process one-by-one.
- You must also ensure you select "Remove from all devices".
-
[VERY IMPORTANT] Allow 24 hours for the cache to clear:
- There is no way to force the cache to clear and you will need to allow the timeout to occur.
- You must wait 24 hours before adding any of the email accounts to Outlook (on any device).
- Then, at this point, you should be able to re-add the email account (with the new details).
In the meantime you could use the Titan Desktop app or Webmail:
- Link to Titan App
- Titan Webmail via https://app.titan.email
The alternative to the Outlook Store App is to purchase a licence for Office 365 Outlook/Office software.
Note that you would only need the Microsoft Apps for Business licence to obtain the software, however, if you wish you could also look at moving the email hosting fully to the Office 365 Exchange system also - which requires different licencing depending on your needs.
You can purchase these licences via ourselves and you can contact our Sales team to discuss further if you wish or refer to the following on our website:

Gmail Interface
Important Note
Google is removing the ability to check email from other accounts starting January 2026. We recommend using the Titan webmail moving forward.
See https://help.blacknight.com/hc/en-us/articles/29916557874962-IMPORTANT-POP-connections-within-Gmail-is-being-removed for more information.
While we are supplying the instructions to change existing settings in the Gmail interface, please note we do not offer support for the use of the Gmail interface when connecting to the Titan mailboxes.
Aside from the delays it can introduce in checking for email - up to one hour polling times, it can also introduce additional complexity and issues that we are unable to troubleshoot from our side.
It is recommended to use the Titan Webmail interface instead for your Titan mailboxes.
While logged into your Gmail account, follow these steps:
- Click the Settings icon towards the top right (the cog icon).
- Click "See all settings".
- Click "Accounts and Import".
On this screen, you will see two sections - one or both may have an entry for the email account:
-
"Check mail from other accounts"
- This is the [Incoming] POP connection.
- Hostname is pop0101.titan.email.
- The Port is 995.
- Ensure that "Always use a secure connection(SSL)" is ticked.
-
"Send mail as"
- This is the [Outgoing] SMTP connection.
- Hostname is smtp0101.titan.email.
- The Port is 465.
- Ensure that "Secured Connection Using SSL" is ticked.
Edit each account - which is applicable on the Titan system, and enter the details as per above and save, which should then update the connections settings for the email account in question.
