This article relates to our automatic migration process for our legacy qmail\mail.blacknight.com on Minimus, Medius, Maximus, or email-only\OX plans on our older cp.blacknight.com system.
Some parts of this FAQ will not apply if you manually moved from an older plan to a newer Mega, Giga, Tera, Wordpress, or Titan Pro\Premium plan.
NOTE: We are now asking customers to update their email programs to use the new Titan settings. Please see here for the new settings:
How do I set up Titan Email on my computer\laptop\mobile device?
What is Titan?
Titan is an email service provider we are partnering with to provide email services to our customers going forward.
Why am I moving and do I have to change anything?
This is all part of our move off of our legacy hosting and billing platform to the newer cp.blacknighthosting.com system. We are now asking customers to update their email programs to the new Titan settings as soon as possible.
You might need to change dns records if your domain is not using Blacknight's nameservers. This will be noted in the email we send you if that is the case.
You will need to log in to a new webmail address if you access email via webmail.
Do I need to change my MX or SPF records?
If your domain is using Blacknight's nameservers then you don't need to change any DNS records - we will make the change for you.
If your domain is not using our nameservers then we can't change the DNS records. We will still be able to migrate you and your email will initially stay working short-term, but we will contact you asking you to change your DNS records as soon as possible.
How will I know if I have been moved?
You will get an email from us a few days before your service is due to be moved. You will get another email once the move is completed.
How do I log in to the new control panel?
You can log in at https://cp.blacknighthosting.com (if asked pick the new panel). Your username is the primary contact email address associated with your account. You would have received emails in early 2023 in relation to this. Please contact us if you need login details reset.
How do I access the new Webmail?
You can log in to https://app.titan.email to access webmail.
Will my contacts and other Webmail settings move over?
https://webmail.blacknight.com will continue to work for a while after the migration, to access emails on the new titan plan. As it will not remain active indefinitely we recommend you export your contacts and switch over to https://app.titan.email as soon as you can.
Any contacts or settings you set up in the webmail interface only will not be copied to the new system. You will need to export any contacts before the move.

N.B. Contacts and settings in your favourite email app on your computer, laptop, phone or tablet are not affected by this and those settings will not be affected by this move.
My emails are all duplicated or downloading again, what can I do?
Depending on the set up of your email program there is a chance your email program will re-download all your emails. I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do if this happens. It typically happens if your email program is set to use POP and keep a copy of the emails on the server. This includes Gmail if you are connecting to your mailbox via Gmail.
My Sent Emails have disappeared?
Depending on your email program there might be a new Sent folder that your emails will go in to now. You can specify a Sent folder in app.titan.email or your email program.
What will happen my SpamExperts subscription?
SpamExperts spam filter will be removed prior to the migration. Titan has its own internal spam filters.
If you are currently paying for SpamExperts then this will be cancelled from your hosting package. No spamexperts settings can be copied over to the new platform.
Why did you create a new plan for me and will I be charged?
We will create a free hosting package for you on our new control panel to migrate the email service in to. Your website hosting package (if applicable) will also be moved here when it is ready to be moved. Until that time you will not be charged for the new plan, so you will not be charged twice.
If you have an email-only plan with us then there is no hosting to move. Your plan on our old system will be cancelled and the new plan will be billed for going forward.
Each domain on your account will also have it's own, separate, Titan plan. These are free of charge.
How do I manage my website after my email is moved?
The website management side of Minimus, Medius, and Maximus plans is not yet ready to be moved. Until those services are moved please log in to the old cp.blacknight.com panel as previous in order to manage your website(s).
How do I add a new email address on the new system?
Please see here for how to create a new email account on Titan: How do I create a new email address?
How do I set up Titan email in my email program?
You do not need to make any changes to your existing settings, but if you want to set up an email address in a new email program (or a new email address) then the following can help with that:

How do I setup Titan Email on iPhone
How do I set up Titan Email on my computer\laptop\mobile device?
How do I set up Titan Email on gmail.com?
How do I add a new domain for email on the new system?
Currently you need to contact help@blacknight.com if you want to add email hosting to a new domain.
For more on adding a newly registered domain to your legacy plan for website hosting please see here: Point a newly registered domain to your existing legacy hosting plan
How do I change an email password on the new system?
Please see here for how to change your email password on Titan: How do I change my titan email password?
How do I set up a forwarder on the new system?
Please see here for how to forward emails from one address to another on Titan: How do I forward email for one address to another?
You can only forward email from one address to a maximum of 3 external addresses in Titan. If you mailbox currently forwards to more than 3 addresses then only the first 3 forwarders in alphabetical order will be set up on the email address in Titan.
How do I set up an autoresponder or out-of-office on the new system?
Please see here for how to create an autoresponder or out-of-office on Titan: How do I set up an autoresponder or out of office in Titan?
How do I set up a catch-all email address on the new system?
Please see here for how to have one of your addresses be a catch-all address on Titan: How to create a catch-all email address
Please note that if your mailbox had more than 10 aliases set up on the old system at the time of migration we will convert it to a catch-all address in Titan.
How is spam blocked on Titan?
Titan has its own spamfilters that are continuously updated to combat new forms of spam. There is no way to have custom whitelists or blacklists, or to change the spamfilter settings, on the free Titan plans.
You can continue to block specific senders in your email program (if supported) or webmail interface however.
See here for how to do that in Titan Webmail: Want-to-keep-certain-senders-out-of-your-Inbox
I can no longer send email?
If your domain is not pointing to Titan's MX and SPF record, or has no MX or SPF record at all, then you will not be able to send emails through Titan's servers. We will automatically create these DNS records during the migration if your domain is using our nameservers, but if your domain has expired, or was pointing to a different MX record than Blacknight's prior to migration then you may have to reconsider how you are sending email (i.e. send through your receiving mailservice provider)
Are there any sending limits?
The sending limits are different on Titan compared to our legacy plans. Due to global increases in spam and unsolicited marketing emails Titan have stricter limits on sending emails. You can see more on the limits on their website here:
How-many-emails-can-I-send-and-receive
Best-practices-while-sending-bulk-emails
Will I have more or less space?
Your mailbox size will be set to 3GB (the maximum limit on our legacy plans). If you need to upgrade to get more space after the migration please contact us for details.
I have email accounts set up with you but my email is actually pointing somewhere else, what will happen to it?
We will not be able to migrate you in this case. You need to update your applications to use your current provider for sending or receiving emails and download any emails that you might have stored on our side. You cannot keep a mailbox active on Titan that is not pointing to Titan for email.
What are the main differences with the new system?
- There is a new webmail interface: https://app.titan.email
- Titan has full support for newer TLS\SSL settings and DKIM support: Set-up-DKIM-Record
- There is a limit of 3 forwarders per address on Titan
- There is a limit of 10 aliases per address however a single catch-all per domain is supported in Titan
- You can't have a filter or forwarder on an autoresponder\out-of-office in Titan
- Any autoresponder with no set subject on our current system will have the subject set to "Re:"
- Disabled mailboxes will not have their contents copied, but the address\forwarder will still be created during the migration
- If your domain has no MX or an MX record that points away from Blacknight or Titan then you cannot use Titan to send email.
- There are new limits on sending emails: How-many-emails-can-I-send-and-receive
- If the domain's MX isn't pointing to Titan then we can't migrate it and you can't send out from it.
- IDNs are not currently supported but we will hopefully have support for them soon
