Settings up email accounts on Outlook
[This article only applies to Shared Hosted email]
Please ensure, when using encryption, that you set the following ports:
- POP: 995
- IMAP: 993
- SMTP (Outgoing): 25 or 587 as an alternative.
Note: Set TLS/STARTTLS as the encryption type and NOT SSL (where available).
Outlook App (Phone/Tablets)
Please note that we have had reports of difficulty setting up email in the Outlook App on phones/tablets and also similar reports for already configured email accounts in that App; if you are unable to complete setup, or have similar issues, you may need to use the built-in email client or another application.
To setup as new on the outlook App:
Open the Outlook App and go to add an email account.
- On IOS devices:
- Choose Setup Account Manually.
- On Android devices:
- Enter the your email address and password and continue.
- Tap on "Advanced Settings".
Choose IMAP when setting up the account, unless you need to use POP; you should ensure that you leave copies of the email downloaded on the server if you do use POP - this would be under the settings for the account (in the app).
- Email Address: <your full email address>
- Display Name: <what you want to show to the receiver>
- Description: <Is just for your reference on the phone/device>
- Incoming Server Settings (IMAP):
- IMAP Incoming Email Server: mail.blacknight.com:993:1
- IMAP Username: <your full email address>
- IMAP Password: <your email address password>
- Incoming Server Settings (POP):
- POP Incoming Email Server: mail.blacknight.com:995:1
- POP Username: <your full email address>
- POP Password: <your email address password>
- SMTP Outgoing Email Server:
- SMTP Host Name: mail.blacknight.com:587:1
- SMTP Username: <your full email address>
- SMTP Password: <your email address password>
When setting up on the Outlook App, you need to ensure you enter the hostnames as follows:
- IMAP: mail.blacknight.com:993:1
- POP: mail.blacknight.com:995:1
- SMTP: mail.blacknight.com:587:1
Ensure also that you enter the full email address as the username and the corresponding password (for the email account) where prompted; it is not optional and is required for both the Incoming and Outgoing server connection.

Outlook 2016
Note: As of August 2017, Microsoft updated the interface on Outlook 2016. As a result, you need to ensure you "Manually Configure" the mailbox in Outlook - where the "Auto Configuration" will not work/complete.
You would carry out the following steps within the "Control Panel".
- Click Start and then type "Control Panel" and press enter on the keyboard.
- Choose "Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2016)"
- Click on "Email accounts".
- Click on "File"
- Click on "Account Settings" (On the info section)
- Click on "New" ("Change" if the account already exists)
- Click on "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" and press Next (If creating new)
- Click on "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and press Next
- Click on "Internet E-Mail" and press "Next" (If creating new)
Fill in the various fields as follows:
- Your Name: Whatever name you want to appear on your Emails.
- E-Mail Address: Your full email address.
- Account Type: POP3 (or IMAP if you want to use IMAP).
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.blacknight.com.
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.blacknight.com.
- User Name: Your full email address.
- Password: The password you assigned to the email account when you created it.
Then to complete the configuration of the "Outgoing Server" settings:
- Press "More Settings" and go to "Outgoing Server".
- Select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
- You can set it to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
- Press "Advanced" and change the outgoing server port from 25 to 587 and press OK.
Press Next and Finish to finish setting up the email account.
Outlook 2010/2013
You would carry out the following steps within Outlook.
- Click on "File"
- Click on "Account Settings" (On the info section)
- Click on "New" ("Change" if the account already exists)
- Click on "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" and press Next (If creating new)
- Click on "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and press Next
- Click on "Internet E-Mail" and press "Next" (If creating new)
Fill in the various fields as follows:
- Your Name: Whatever name you want to appear on your Emails.
- E-Mail Address: Your full email address.
- Account Type: POP3 (or IMAP if you want to use IMAP).
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.blacknight.com.
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.blacknight.com.
- User Name: Your full email address.
- Password: The password you assigned to the email account when you created it.
Then to complete the configuration of the "Outgoing Server" settings:
- Press "More Settings" and go to "Outgoing Server".
- Select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
- You can set it to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
- Press "Advanced" and change the outgoing server port from 25 to 587 and press OK.
Press Next and Finish to finish setting up the email account.
Outlook 2003
You would carry out the following steps within Outlook.
- Click on "Tools".
- Click on "EMail Accounts".
- Click on "Add new email account".
- Click on "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" and press Next.
Fill in the various fields as follows:
- Your Name: Whatever name you want to appear on your Emails.
- E-Mail Address: Your full email address.
- Account Type: POP3 (or IMAP if you want to use IMAP).
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.blacknight.com.
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.blacknight.com.
- User Name: Your full email address.
- Password: The password you assigned to the email account when you created it.
Then to complete the configuration of the "Outgoing Server" settings:
- Press "More Settings" and go to "Outgoing Server".
